Senior Advisor, Policy & Government Affairs

The Senior Advisor, Policy & Government Affairs primary role is to manage the effective daily operations of the Policy & Government Affairs Department and provide strategic advice and counsel to the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs. The Senior Advisor ensures that all requests and interactions with the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs are handled appropriately in a timely fashion and ensures that the highest quality service standards are developed and applied in alignment with the organization’s values of excellence, spirit of hospitality, and respect.
 
The Senior Advisor develops processes and procedures to most effectively and efficiently manage interactions with staff, board members, guests and all stakeholders (including policy makers, elected officials and other organization leaders) to facilitate successful meetings and the achievement of NRA strategic goals.
 
The Senior Advisor is a representative of the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs at all times, both internally and externally, requiring a high-degree of professionalism and sound judgment, including and especially the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, and the ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with great discretion.
 
Principle Duties
Manage and advance all strategic initiatives within the Policy & Government Affairs Department to achieve goals and direction of the team and Association.   
Assist EVP, Policy & Government Affairs with development and achievement of goals and vision of the Executive Leadership Team.   
Serve as a direct liaison and interface for the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs throughout the organization.
Lead cross-functional collaboration on interdepartmental projects and enterprise-wide initiatives ensuring accountability and completion of deliverables to meet deadlines.
Assist EVP, Policy & Government Affairs to move forward on their priorities within defined timelines, and ensures focus on urgent items and upcoming deadlines.
Works with EVP, Policy & Government Affairs to develop organizational systems for effectively processing flow of information and materials requiring their attention.
Manage vendors and outside consultants including negotiating vendor contracts and reviewing invoices.   Lead and attend meeting with all vendors and outside consultants.   
Assist in the management of the budget and finance process for Policy & Government Affairs Team including collaborating with all team managers who oversee functions that have budgetary impact.
Lead cross-functional collaboration on interdepartmental projects and enterprise-wide initiatives ensuring accountability and completion of deliverables to meet deadlines.
Manage strategic alliances and ally relations with other industry stakeholders and 3rd party partners.  
Manage incoming requests to the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs exhibiting sound judgment and solid knowledge department and organizational priorities. Respond and assist with requests from key stakeholders on behalf of the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs.
Assists and supports the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs with preparation for presentations and speaking engagements, including traveling with the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs as necessary to conferences, industry and political events.
Assists the EVP, Policy & Government Affairs in all responsibilities as needed and warranted.
 
 
Essential Use of Following Tools: 
Ability to use all standard office equipment including: computer, printer, fax machine, phones, voice mail, photocopiers, etc.
 
Essential Training/Certifications: 
Four year college degree required.
Four years office management experience required.
Knowledge of Capitol Hill and national politics is preferred.
 
Essential Skills/Knowledge
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical.
Exhibits high levels of professionalism, discretion and sound judgment at all times.
Strong writing, reading and math skills
Effective communication skills; communicating clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

Works effectively under pressure and prioritizes work, often juggling multiple assignments within short timeframe while following through and meeting deadlines.

Computer literate (Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint applications) with the ability and flexibility to learn other computer software programs.
