The Department of Communication at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Term Instructor position in Journalism. The initial term of appointment is for one nine-month contract (August 2018 through May 2019) with contract renewal contingent on satisfactory performance. Summer teaching is optional and usually available (contingent on enrollment) at 10% of the academic year salary for one Summer course. Review of applications will begin February 15 and will continue until this position is filled for the Fall 2018 semester. For full consideration, applications must be received by March 15.
The selected candidate will teach three journalism courses per semester and will coordinate all journalism offerings, including serving as director for two journalism-related programs (minor in journalism, minor in sport communication). Coordinator duties include monitoring journalism course rotations, selecting and supervising part-time faculty, textbook selection, journalism student advising, outreach, liaising with the Office of Student Media, and other formal service to the department, college and/or University, the nature of which is negotiated with the Department Chair.
- A master's degree in communication or related field.
- Current experience in and familiarity with the Washington, DC metro area media/journalism market.
- College or university teaching experience.
- Significant professional journalism experience.
