Communications Intern


Position Description: (List duties, responsibilities, etc.)

The ideal candidate will be willing to assist with all aspects of the multimedia communications (media & outreach, social media, corporate partners, etc.) for the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA).

Media & Outreach:  

-Assist staff with tracking, formatting and archiving reviews and other media. 

-Assist with the development and updating of media lists and other databases, including media, marketing and administrative databases. Other tasks include database creation, data entry and update additions and corrections. 

-Monitor conversations and online activity across a variety of social networks and channels. 

-Assist in the production of advertisements, press releases, and other promotional materials for media outreach. 

-Participate in other collaborative staff projects.  

-Provide administrative and clerical support. 


-Draft social copy from content in the Daily Clips report. 

-Manage calendar of relevant and notable “holidays” (e.g. National Park Week) and assist in drafting or finding related content for social sharing. 

-Monitor user comments on our social channels. 

-Research and track engagement with celebrities/social influencers. 

-Participate in brainstorms as appropriate for social projects. 

-Curate content for social campaigns as needed.  

Corporate Partners: 

-Research prospective corporate partners and marketing contacts; provide key insights on partnership opportunities. 

-Participate in brainstorms for prospective partnerships and/or existing partner renewal opportunities. 

-Curate social media content for corporate partner marketing campaigns. 

-Support development of prospect pipeline by identifying partner brands/opportunities.  

-Provide administrative and clerical support for partner projects and meetings.

Qualifications/Requirements (i.e., education, technical skills):

Ideal candidate is an undergraduate (junior or senior) in public relations, marketing, communications, digital communication or other related programs. Ideal candidate will be detail oriented, organized and creative, possess a professional work ethic, and will be enthusiastic to gain new knowledge. Full-time and part-time students are encouraged to apply; we do our best to work with students and their class schedules.  

Additional qualifications include:  

-Strong written and verbal communication, strong editing skills  

-Microsoft Office proficiency 

-Experience writing professionally or for a school publication preferred  

-Familiarity with social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, others) also preferred 

-Self-motivated, detail-oriented  

-Dependable, flexible and ability to maintain confidentiality  

-The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines 

-Passion for environmental protection a plus 

Describe the tangible deliverables (projects, outcomes) that will be achieved: 

We expect the intern to gain skills in writing, editing, research, reader service, news judgment, marketing and communications and project management.  

Employee Status: Part-time 15-20 Hours per week  

Work Schedule: 3-4 days/week for 5 hours/day, but can be flexible  

Salary (Hourly Rate): Combination of $1,000 (net) stipend and course credit
