Senior Communications Associate

Washington DC

Carbon180 is seeking a Senior Communications Associate to support our growing policy and legislative work in Washington, D.C. This role bridges Carbon180’s policy and communications  teams and is based in D.C. You will be responsible for tracking and sourcing high-quality media coverage, maintaining communication across the organization, crafting messages that resonate with target policy audiences (including reporters and policymakers), and developing and distributing original content and thought leadership.

At Carbon180 comparable training and/or experience can be substituted for degrees and/or direct experience when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 and is determined based upon experience. All Carbon180 full-time employees receive health, vision, dental, and life insurance, along with retirement matching and other benefits.

What you’ll do

  • Develop outreach strategies for target audiences under the guidance of the Director of Policy
  • Write blog posts and op-eds that highlight our policy positions and provide copy-editing for Carbon180 publications
  • Track media coverage of issues relevant to Carbon180’s work and lead reporter outreach and education
  • Support Carbon180’s social media presence
  • Manage email marketing to key policy audiences
  • Provide communications and logistics support for Carbon180 events
  • Serve as liaison between the policy team and communications team
  • Assist with the production of digital and print communications assets
What you’ll bring
  • Proven track record (3+ years) in communications, PR, or a related field
  • Strong ability to interpret complex scientific information and translate it into messaging that resonates with target audiences
  • Familiar with organizational tools like Slack and Asana as well as media tracking tools like BGov (or quick at picking up new tech platforms!)
  • A healthy dose of climate rage and the determination to do something about it
  • An excellent communicator with proven writing, editing, and proofreading ability
  • Someone with excellent interpersonal skills who cares about what it means to be a good person
  • Experience working with graphic design consultants is a plus
