Democratic member of the Senate HELP Committee seeks Health Legislative Assistant. Health is one of the Senator’s top priority policy areas, and this position will cover issues including public health, mental health, maternal health, ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, COVID-19, and women’s health, among other issues. Duties include researching, drafting and advancing legislation, preparing memos and vote recommendations for the Senator, staffing hearings and meetings with the Senator, representing the office in meetings with home-state stakeholders, liaising with federal agencies, working closely with press and state staff on related issues, and managing 1-2 Legislative Correspondents and a fellow. Substantial health policy experience required – Capitol Hill experience is preferred; familiarity with legislative proposals to expand access to quality affordable health insurance is important; and an advanced degree in a health- or health policy-related field is helpful. This LA must be a self-starter with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced office, a clear and concise writing style, strong institutional relationships, the ability to spot and pursue opportunities for continued leadership in the health space, and outstanding time management skills.
